I am absolutely convinced that the Dems wanted to loose quickly last year to avoid this possibility.

Bob,

Do you honestly believe anyone actually wants a lose (LOSE) a war?

If so, could you provide evidence, or is this your gut feeling?

If the war is that close to over in November, then a timetable to draw down our victorious troops would make sense, right?

This is the Catch-22, the better we do the more we need to stay and the worse we do, the more we need to stay. Staying has become a political stance in and of itself, regardless of the situation on the ground.

But since we face a crazy kaleidoscope of shifting threats and aims, there will always be some reason to stay geared up in troop levels. Endlessly.

>>By November Mosul should be cleared. Sadr will be either emasculated or causing hell. There are 5 months to go until November. Imagine the election if the war is clearly on the two yard line.

Now - will Americans want to quit on the two?

This is Obama's worst nightmare.

I am absolutely convinced that the Dems wanted to loose quickly last year to avoid this possibility.<<

Bob -

My goodness, what a horrible thing to believe. No wonder you dread a Democratic government, if you think "Dems" would care more about winning an election than they do about the lives of our troops.

I, for one, would be happy as hell to see Iraq cooled down that quickly. I'd even be happy to see Osama bin Laden and Zawahiri behind bars before the election.

Obama can still kick McCain's ass, on a whole host of other issues. And why on earth do you suppose that he could not adapt to the circumstance of an Iraq war that was very nearly completed? Of course he would not just precipitously pull our troops out and create new chaos in the process.

Even if the war in Iraq is "won" by November, there will still be the point that Bush got us into it unnecessarily, using deception, and did so with McCain's full support. That alone would still be reason enough to vote for Obama.
