The Republicans have not been strong enough on conservation. The Democrats have not been supporters of production. It is a shared responsibility. As for protecting Detroit - who - the UAW or the companies. They are one in the same. You cannot screw the companies without screwing the UAW - a group Democrats claim to care about. BTW - Michigan is one of the states with the worst economic performance - you want that to be worse? Is that part of your train wreck solution? I do not think you can find anything different from me. This little exchange started with those who only think drilling is the answer. I defied you to identify such. You then went to Bush/Cheny. Can you simply admit you were wrong and used inflamatory rhetoric for some unknown reason? Why do you do that? << Bob - To take your last point first, I was not the one who said anything about drilling being the only answer. The post you just responded to was my first within this conversation. I was butting in. Yes, you have said all along that a balanced plan is what's needed. But I believe I can state without fear of contradiction that what I quoted above marks the very first time that you've assigned part of the blame to the Republicans for not being strong on conservation. Pretty much every time you post an article about how bad oil prices are getting, or how we're still dependent on foreign oil, you include a comment like, "Take a bow, Democrats." I have had no way of knowing, before now, that you also thought Republicans might also deserve to take a bow. As for "protecting Detroit", you have bought into the ridiculous notion that if higher CAFE standards were required, Detroit would go out of business. It is perfectly possible to make high-mileage cars and sell them at a profit. There are plenty of carmakers doing it, around the world. - Allen
