And if they hadn't acknowledged the reality, then your precious surge wouldn't have accomplished anything at all. When they started buying the Sunni insurgents (who had previous targeted primarily US soldiers) with guns and money to go after al Qaeda in Iraq things settling down some. Now long term that strategy will probably make things even more divisive and dangerous... but it gets us through an election cycle.

Oh, how'd they get those Sunis to go after their own Bin Laden's Al Qaeda? Bin Laden's a Suni. Bin Laden said AQI was the central front for Al Qaeda.

WTF? All these Sunnis going after other Sunnis, or working with Shiites, all kinds of combinations.

But we know they don't do that, right?

As to your original point, the surge, what we know is that violence -- both civilian and military, has dropped radically, al Sadr has been defeated, in the last two weeks Iraqis have reported the same number of weapons caches as they did in the previous two years, and progress is continuing.

Much as you and the Left want it to be getting worse, it is obviously getting better. Even the media is now forced to report the improvement (although CNN still tries like hell to make it look as though progress is not happening).
