We are splitting hairs. Please tell him that you can conceive of a possiblity that they did cooperate tactically at times for mutual tactical interests. Very narrow stuff like agreed to transit across territory etc.

You mean of course that you don't know if they are cooperating at all.

I have not made any statements about current cooperation, however, as the news article I previously posted suggested, there is some reason to believe that some cooperation is happening.

OTOH, Al Qaeda has been decimated by the United States, so the veracity of that report could legitimately be doubted; why would Iran bother to "cooperate" with AQ now that it is a has-been?

So, my only claim has been that Iran worked closely with AQ in the formative period of the early 90s. Still, it shuts down the argument that they WON'T work together against US or Israel due to religious differences, points which the Left on this thread as well as the Left in general, have tried claim.

It simply is not true. Sunnis will line up behind Shia and vice versa to fight Israel. Or the US.
