Defining what someone else's standard of sensitivity should be is a slippery slope. If my notion of yours is wrong, you'll just think I am insensitive and get mad at me.

My standard for people who spend lots of money on goofy automobiles of any sort is really, really low.

Lane3;

You make my point.

Maybe I missed your point? I thought you were saying we shouldn't say anything bad about Hummer owners because they would feel bad we were saying things about them. ......My point back to you is that darn right we should say something about Hummer ownership as a general statement. If we as a country can't put some pressure on completely wasteful energy consumption - we will never make headway towards energy independence. We will end up with people like SUV owner who says it is the fault of Bush and we should help SUV owners.

>>You make my point.<<

Karen -

I believe I understood your point about the Hummer posts. It wasn't about those posts specifically, and you weren't criticizing Steve and me for making them. You were demonstrating that offensiveness is in the mind of the offended.

If I made a statement like "All Irish people are idiots," that would be considered offensive by a larger number of people than my statements about Hummer owners have been. But that doesn't mean that there is no way to construe the Hummer comments as being offensive.

Have I understood you correctly?

- Allen
