Amazing. Congrats! Hope she continues to get even better.

I wonder if tysabri (when it works) would obviate the need for the Acorda MS walking drug?

Oh, great news.

Physicians don't like to over-promise. In a year, she'll be looking for a home gym.

Best! Rick

Jim- That is great news, congratulations to Karen! I guess the real test for working in the garden will come this August! IF she is able to stay outside in the sweltering heat and humidity, then they ought to put Tysabri into the St. Louis drinking water. I have recently seen some St. Louis friends in town for the Bulldogs graduation that have said it has been a beautiful spring/early summer there. Spring was never long enough for me when I lived there!

My view on the ACOR drug is that it will also improve upon the effects of T, and of course you have all the patients on the CRABs that would be eligible/eager patients.

Today, she has been working in the garden despite the heat (nearly 90F) and claims to be feeling very good.

Today, I decided not to work in the garden because of the heat. Congratulations to Karen.

Good to hear IJ! Nothing like life to bring into focus what biotech is all about.

All you guys who are talkin' smack about ACOR, be careful or we may have to get Texasdude to come over here. :))

Edit: Before anyone get their backhairs all out of shape, this is not a poke at ELN or Texasdude or IJ or America or Texas or dudes.

Another update (short summary) on my wife's experience on Tysabri:

The first two infusions had no noticeable effect.

The third infusion resulted in a couple of days of symptomatic relief.

The fourth infusion resulted in about 16 days of relief after which the symptoms returned/increased.

The fifth infusion suppressed the symptoms within 8-10 hours of the infusion. Today is day 28 (infusion 6 tomorrow) and only a few of the symptoms have returned and those that have are at a significantly reduced level. This is really what we had hoped for - a reduction/elimination of the adverse symptoms that would last for the whole term between infusions.

It has been 3 or 4 years since my wife an I played tennis. Before MS took it's toll, she was always the more athletic and beat me at tennis and ping pong. MS impaired her balance and I could not stand to play with her and watch/wait for her to fall down. So we stopped playing. Recently we played again - two sets. I saw no signs of the balance problem that had been so pronounced. She did have difficulty moving well enough to play well. So I easily won.

I also see the balance change when we walk together - she does not bump into me as she did.

I suspect we have seen the most significant results of T and I do not want to become a bore with these posts. So unless something significant happens I will stop the reports here. I do suspect that we will see slow improvements over time as the damaging autoimmune attacks are suppressed.

IMO, T is the "gold standard" for treating RRMS.
