if there's plenty of money around it won't cost much to rent some, and when there's a shortage the rent goes up, not lockstep for sure but there is correlation

nice try. sorry. CFHC said it almost got by them but they won't be reducing your mortgage if you send them referrals.

Better USD indexes exist, ask the FED :-)
federalreserve.gov
Note that the USD Index a.k.a. G-10 has been discontinued in 1998 but is the only one traded.

FWIW, I just got off the phone with Jim Sinclair who knows Paul Volcker and said that Volcker himself would not consider doing a repeat of 1980... that the situation is too extreme and the consequences of tightening too dire.
