We have a big family and lots of friends that have dogs. Trading out watching others houses and animals is par for the course.

Dog sitter? They wouldn't even consider it. When I had dogs, I put them in a kennel overnight, just to get them used to the idea. I'd do that a couple of times just before we'd leave. Then when we wanted to go away, the dogs knew we'd be back for them.

Dog I had in the 70's and 70's went everywhere with me. Nova Scotia, California, Washington State, Virginia. Never kenneled. Boy that was a mistake.

Time came, when she was old, that we had to kennel her. Because we'd never done it, it was a real stress on her. Since then, our dogs have been trained to go to the kennell periodically. They know it, it's familiar, and they know we'll be back.
