$45 million for the futuristic project...It will pay for environmental studies for the first leg of the project.

45 mil for "environmental studies"?? 45 mil (taxpayers $$'s) to determine if a couple of desert turtles might get squashed on the tracks?? How much will actually building and deploying the thing cost?? And who's going to pay for it??

There is no train on the route—Amtrak's Desert Wind between Los Angeles and Las Vegas was canceled in 1997 because of low ridership.
