I am the last guy who would defend chris parsons on this and i dont intend to do that. But as an explanation, any of us old enough to remember vietnam, remember quite well the napalming of villages, deforestations, etc and the relentless pounding of B52 bombers in the north. I grew up as a kid in the 50s venerating our soldiers and pilots from WW2. It was a rude awakening to see war as it really is--not john wayne bull shit but an horrific event to be avoided.
Add to that my status of victim of an air attack on 9/11 as well, I fully understand where the pacifism comes from. But the way i resolve this is to understand that there are really bad folks out there--not bush--who cause these wars where so many suffer. They cant be defeated with flowers and olive branches and wars will always be horrific.
Thats a shot at trying to explain why Taro is right about many liberals view of vietnam in particular and war in general.

Why should they (the libs) say Parson's post was offensive when they don't believe so??

Fact is that any of the liberals on this board fully support and agree with that kind of trash.
That also goes for CJ and the other (few) fairly intelligent libs here.

The problem is that it flies in the face of "We support the troops" -- which they all claim to do.

Arguably, the most critical component of being a soldier is the ability to carry out orders -- whether or not one agrees with them. You line up and do what has to be done on blind faith that the leadership has it right, in fact, sometimes knowing that the leadership has it wrong.

If you can't do that, you're not a good candidate for being a soldier.

Anyone in this country who would denigrate a soldier for carrying out orders doesn't deserve the benefits we have by living here. Now, it is true that even a sub-human like Parsons can't be ordered to leave. But his remarks, IMO, are indicative of a person who doesn't deserve to be here.

Bullshit.
