I don't believe that and I don't think most liberals believe that.

I doubt you would see a show of hands here that have been posting that belief on more than one occasion.

Now since I am giving ground will you give ground and support some strong incentives/disincentives for gasoline efficiency?

We've seen what govt incentives did for alternate energy. The incentives are already in place, a more fuel efficient vehicle uses less gas and a larger vehicle uses more gas.

Disincentives do nothing but give politicians more tax money to waste. If cigarettes are so bad, ban them. If oil is so bad, ban it. Period. We're watching politicians stumble all around the issue, with their mindset based upon the money involved with buying votes in the next election.

Redistribution of wealth by having a truck driver hauling food to market pay for someone driving their Prius three blocks for a Starbucks is wrong. The disincentive is already there for soccermom driving the SUV, she sees her credit card bill every month.

There is enough incentive already, people would have run up their credit cards enough that they will have to move to more efficient vehicles or lose their house. But wait, the govt is going to keep people from losing their house because they can't pay the mortgage because they're busted on their credit cards.

See how bad things are already thanks to the govt? And you want more govt intervention?

Our system may have some parts of it which seem unfair, but you get the govt involved, you're going to be hurting a lot more than you are now.

I'll let you in on a little secret, limiting a CEO's salary, raising corporate taxes, or a Maxine "Mugabee" Waters style of govt will not lower the price of gasoline or move your neighbor closer to driving a bicycle.

At $3 a gallon, I was already driving the minimum I must to keep my job. At $4 a gallon, I'm just paying it. At $5 a gallon I'll pay it because I have to work. My old Saturn gets 40 miles per gallon. Any interference by the govt to restrict my use of gas, or the vehicle I drive, will only increase the risk of losing my job. That's how stupid the govt is.

Look around, look at history.

The fastest way to get off of oil if that is your goal, is to run out.
