Chris, > Poor renters get no such break.

Well duh, they don't have a home mortgage.

The home mortgage deduction has helped make real estate prices much higher than they would have been without it. Great for those who already have a home these days, or bought at or before 2002, but it locks new home buyers out of the market.

Just one of many examples of the tax code keeping the rich rich and the poor poor.

The mortgage deduction just results in higher home prices. Penalizing first time homebuyers/renters even more. Just like most tax breaks for homeownership.
