BP;

Would a fastidious homeowner believe that his yard was trashed if there was a bare spot the size of ten postage stamps off in the corner?

That is a nonsense argument and suggest an original author who has no understanding of wild places. It smacks of the type of arguments made when the timber industry wanted to log in the last old growth forest. You have almost the rest of the world to look for oil, why not just leave this last wild place to future Americans?

Ratio of drilling footprint to ANWR 2,000/19,000,000 = 0.00001

Yup same argument could be made about the waters off the coast of Alaska just prior to the grounding of the Exxon Valdez and the spilling of oil and soiling of one of the most beautiful places on earth.
