I'm lucky that half my two acres is a protected watershed area with a stream and forest; I can't change it but no one else can either, probably not in my lifetime since it's part of the broader Chesapeake Bay drainage protection project.

We derive immense pleasure from strolling our little reserve, watching what grows, guessing which trees will make it and which will tumble, the change of seasons, the whole nine yards.

I grew up in a Dallas suburb where everything was scalped bare for subdivisions. Probably why I shelled out to settle down where I am now.
