The link you gave, dropped into conversations about the wisdom of privatizing, makes it appear as if you were doing more than simply noting that it happens in other countries.

It would help, thus, when you offer those links, to give some explanation as to why you put them forward.

LOL. And if I hadn't offered the link, the next question would have been "why isn't she telling us where she got that snippet?"

The issue has been whether it was wise or not.

Yes, most often, probably. I think I also recall discussions about how and if the proposal might operate.

The link you gave, dropped into conversations about the wisdom of privatizing

Dropped into conversations about the wisdom of privatizing? The sum total of the conversation when I dropped it in was "Ah, McCain heads back to the privatization of SS. So many rich targets." That was nothing more than an announcement that McCain had raised the issue again plus a gratuitous grunt. There was not yet any established wisdom-of-privatizing topic on the table.

makes it appear as if you were doing more than simply noting that it happens in other countries.

OK, let's say for the sake of argument that I was doing "something more." The link opposed privatizing, you tell me. Why then would you infer that I supported privatizing and needed to be educated about its faults? If you're going to make an inference from a link someone posts, the more natural inference would be that the party supports the position expressed on that link, although doing so is not justified, either.

If by "conversations" with an "s" you mean to imply the extended thread discussion on the subject, not just the latest increment, then I offer this: "Before someone gets on my case for supporting privatization, let me be clear that I think it was a horrid plan."

Sure, from now on I will offer the following with my links: "I am posting this link so that you will know the source of the information I quoted." And/or "While I am sure your recognize the source, I am posting this link as a courtesy so that if you want to read the surrounding material you don't have to track it down yourself." Those are right up there with "don't put this plastic bag over your head."

For the record, the courtesy explanation applies to the link above. I trust that you can easily recognize the source.
