There is clearly no love lost between the two camps. But I still don't see how "smart politician" translates into Hillary Clinton sharing her feelings about Obama's prospects in the fall with a reporter. To be published.

If this is true, it's beyond bizarre. Obama has every incentive in the world to make nice with Hillary, and nothing in his past behavior suggests that he's given to gratuitous insults like this. Either the conventional wisdom is wrong, or else there's a much deeper game going on than anyone thinks.

I agree, it was completely unnecessary and gratuitous, IMO, the first time I've seen that kind of thing coming from this campaign. Why would they even hire a VP's chief of staff before naming the VP? Unless, of course, they have already made that decision and are just waiting for the right time to announce it.

The whole thing doesn't compute for me, and I really really hope it doesn't reflect something about Obama that personally I would find very distasteful.
