Tell the guy that the Fit would save him so much on gas that he could RENT a pickup whenever he needed to haul things, and still be saving money. I've got a truck that sits in my driveway 95% of the time for the same reason. A little hatchback will haul an amazing amount of stuff.

People can afford to buy brand new efficient cars if they get a $5K a year subsidy.

You know I tried to make that case to a guy over the weekend at a hardware store - I told him my new Honda Fit saves enough on gas over my GMC truck it basically pays for itself - he said he couldn't afford the switch and he needs his truck to haul things.

Good point. That's why we need hybrid trucks.
