Problem is that cost of green cars is so high that its not totally clear to buyer how he will make out over time. Thus perhaps govt needs to subsidize green cars with tax breaks either to mfr or consumer or both.

The Hillary solution -- just give everyone who buys a hybrid $10,000. Good idea.

Don't you think a better solution is to allow people to come to this decision for themselves?

I recently actually looked at Hybrids, even though I have a new car that gets 24 mpg. The first thing I saw was a "market premium" of $5,000 on the sticker, at which point I totally blew off the option.

The point is, auto OEMs will get this message and ramp production accordingly. They don't need subsidizing, which is merely trying to have the government buy our way out of it with our already devalued dollars.
