Don't you think a better solution is to allow people to come to this decision for themselves? I recently actually looked at Hybrids, even though I have a new car that gets 24 mpg. The first thing I saw was a "market premium" of $5,000 on the sticker, at which point I totally blew off the option. That's why we have to "help" people make the right decision... if you got a $5K per year subsidy you would have made a different decision. And your gas use would be cut in half, which is good for the country in many, many ways.
