The problem is that when a druggie screws himself up, society steps up to pay for his care and treatment.

The financial cost is real and the druggie is not only hurting himself.

It seems that the way "today's society" is, it is inevitable that we are going to continue sticking our fingers into other people's business, be it trying to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons -- or stopping "entrepreneurs" from implanting "nirvana electrodes" into people's brains, or selling powerful psychodelic drugs in candy stores.

As you said yourself, that's the reality. Our technologies are advanced, and we are darn too powerful. In several ways we are traveling in uncharted waters. Even if we watch our step, we'll have plenty of "trouble ahead".... Libertarian views may have strong appeal, but many ideas often become problematic in their excessively purist form.

I know this is an position that I can't win in our present day society. So I don't push it. It is interesting that Stossel has become so frustrated by the subject that he has gone to the total Libertarian position.

As much as I like most of the tenets of Libertarianism there are certain aspects that I can't stomach....
Someone coined the term republitarian to describe people split between the parties. IMO Conservatarian is more descriptive of my present frame of mind....
