I think we're all aware ethanol has a lower energy content than an equivalent volume of gasoline. That's why it has to compete on price (which Brazillian ethanol can do if left unfettered by pandering U.S. politicians). The ethanol mandate is/was nothing short of a disaster. It should be immediately rolled back, whoever takes over in January. A lot of folks will be surprised that McCain voted against the mandate and Obama voted for it. I know I was.
