what really worries me is that if the DEMs do not get the White House and the Congress that some more backward looking dinasours will get on the supreme Court and set our country back three generations.

yes, that worries me too. Keep in mind that we Republicans all salivated at the idea of a majority in both houses and a Republican in the White House. Bush Jr had that scenario for 6 years. We could have implemented all of our greatest, most cherished projects like social security privatization. But instead, Bush did nothing but spend all of our money and our party's political capital on Iraq. What a damned waste.

Now I know for sure that when the Legislative and Executive Branches of government act as one unit, and don't provide checks and balances on the other, then this country suffers for it. So although I can't wait for the Dems to bring balance back to this country, I am also very worried that they may go nuts just like the Republicans did when they had all the power.

I have reason to be optimistic, though. First, Obama is famous for being a "no drama" guy, who maintains equilibrium even when he's won or is winning. So he can keep the Congress sane too. Second, the Dems will only end up with 56 or 58 seats in the Senate. They won't get the 60 majority.

So those two things will help us make sure we don't have a liberal redux of the neocon catastrophe of the last 7 years.
