Because of the success in Iraq, our priorities for America are beginning to shift.

Iraq is still perceived by many to be "the" issue. But the American People don't know there is progress. They may have heard a passing mention. But we are WINNING in Iraq, after Harry Reid told us a year or more ago the "war is lost".

The problem is that the American People don't understand why winning in Iraq is important. They were told it was all about WMD, which are MIA, and so they think, "Why bother with winning?"

The reality, of course, is that there are other very important reasons for our being there, and these reasons were compelling -- just not as compelling as the WMD argument was.

I don't know why McCain is so tentative on the issues that are strengths for him, but this is another instance. Of course, the situation in Iraq is fragile, and he knows that -- so that could be off-putting.

He is going to have to be a little more assertive or he doesn't have a chance.
