<<And over the past 30 years, Brazil has become energy independent.>>

I was living in Brazil back in 1981 when the first commercial vehicles 100% powered by ethanol hit the market. At that time, Brazil was pretty close from being totally dependent on foreign oil. Gas there was never cheap relative to average income.

About 26 years later, 45-50% of all vehicles are 100% ethanol, the rest powered by a combination of gas/ethanol. With the discoveries of huge oil reserves offshore, Brazil is now virtually energy independent.

I REFUSED TO BELIEVE THAT THIS GREAT COUNTRY OF OURS, KNOWN FOR PUTTING A MAN ON THE MOON AND OTHER TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATIONS, CANNOT FOLLOW THRU A PLAN TO BECOME ENERGY INDEPENDENT IN 20 YEARS!

TRUST ME, IF BRAZIL CAN DO IT WITH ALL OF THEIR CORRUPTION, SO CAN WE.

Sorry for the caps, folks. Just mildly pissed after having paid $72 to fill up my car.
