A question of values? Who's values? What trade off?

While we worry about nice national parks or pristine beaches, the rest of the world wants what we have.

I never see anyone question why it's ok to drill somewhere else like Saudi Arabia, Nigeria or the Amazon (Peru and Ecuador)? Those people want clean water and air along with a healthy environment (at least they do in the Amazon and the Nigerians they just want to eat).

How can we continue to trash the rest of the planet while wanting to keep the US pristine? Nationalized NIMBYism???

So why demand the others drill for energy while threatening to sue them while they take the environmental hits all for IOU's of USD's???

So many need to get out of North America and see how the other 5.8 billion live.

IMO we can have both and do it responsibly.

Don't miss understand, we're way past the time additionally drilling is going to get us out this mess. Only massive conservation and radical change about how we think about energy will make any difference.

Dean:

The US now spends around $600 Billion per year for foreign oil. Using your back of the envelope numbers we would keep around $47+ Billion per year here at home and increasing employment. Its not all about a lower gasoline price, the oil we don't import will be used by some other country and the price per barrel may or may not drop much.

Regards

Peter

Thanks for that piece of worthless liberal propaganda. Nice unbiased source there pal.

"The American Prospect was founded in 1990 as an authoritative magazine of liberal ideas, committed to a just society, an enriched democracy, and effective liberal politics. "
