MacArthur didn't defend the 38th parallel. Instead, he tried to push North Korea all the way beyond the Yalu before he fell into a Chinese trap.

That fact didn't help Japan during WWII.

Either way, I don't forsee a second Korean War ever occuring. Only question now is "Reunification ... When?"
