Microsoft plans big Vancouver, B.C., software center

Microsoft announced this morning that it will open a software development center this fall in the Vancouver, B.C., area, with room for hundreds of workers.

The company cited Vancouver's proximity to Redmond, its status as "a global gateway with a diverse population" -- and a third reason that could stir further controversy among U.S. policy makers and technology workers: Microsoft said in its news release that the office will help it "recruit and retain highly skilled people affected by immigration issues in the U.S."

That was a reference to current limits on the number of foreign technology workers allowed into the country. Microsoft has long called for lifting the federal cap on H-1B visas, to help international recruiting efforts.

are you saying canada closed its doors to the swam of impoverished illegals. Highly doubt it. i assume they have a large door open for the impoverished from all parts of the world and call it legal.. where as we have mexico i assume that is what you are referring to.. i doubt canada can keep Mexico out of their country either. the border between us and canada is really an unmanned border. just like mexico and the united states.

100,000 asians over the last decade.. wonder how many asians came into america in the last decade.. sounds like a very small number for the size of canada.

rimm did something for canada.. my question was these people are making canada a terrific country. i do not see it making a huge difference in canada. i also do not see us having a brain drain of chinese ,asians etc coming over to all our higher education facilities. no telling how many never return.

i see your from oregon,, i wonder how many that settled in canada now have relocated into washington, oregon.
