I do apologize for my insulting remarks about Andrew Gove. The article about him does not always quote him directly and may misinterpret what he actually thinks.

But it also sounds as if his mental powers may be failing him, a condition that evidently makes him attractive to certain readers of this thread.

The idea of trying to retrofit the army of SUVs, Hummers, vans, and oversized sedans that mob our highway system, with electric batteries and motors, seems like something that might appeal to our current president.

Wiki has a detailed rundown on electric vehicle conversion...

en.wikipedia.org

Andy Grove's proposal for mass conversion of existing vehicles does seem kind of far-fetched. But he has Parkinson's disease and I wonder if it may be affecting his judgement a little bit. I have experienced such a decline with a relative and it was tragic.

$1200 labor plus 3000 new engine = 4200 plus down time.

That could buy 1,000 gallon of gas at $4/gal. Some would opt to just continuing to drive another 20,000 miles and then trade in for an even more improved hybrid vehicle. And by then the outlook on peak oil would be better understood.

$3000 for the new engine,

Where did that figure come from?
