Double yawn. Every election year, "lifelong Republicans" say they are abandoning the Republican party this year because how terrible the GOP has gotten. Its just bogus Democratic propaganda. Stupid too.

No, it's real Republican propaganda, backed up by the polls, registrations and the last congressional elections. You are in denial.

Liberals like to lecture conservatives about how they're not really conservative. As if liberals care about who is a true conservative. As if a liberals definition of conservatism mattered to anyone. More bogus liberal propaganda.

As pretty much a lifelong fiscal conservative, I think I understand traditional conservatism better than you do.

But this kinda thing does show something - its an implicit acknowledgement that the conservative "brand" has value in America. Thats true. America is a center-right country.

Used to be... you guys have shit on the brand. Total fiscal irresponsibility, nation building, corruption, special interests instead of main street interests... you've ruined the brand. And "liberal" isn't the label it used to be... lot's of very proud self proclaimed liberals. I would rather be called liberal than Neo.

When JF first started posting on this thread, he made it very clear that he was a conservative. He and I disagree on several issues. But JF was a conservative in the tradition of what a conservative was supposed to be like not what the reality has been over the last ten years since the neos took over the party. So over the past 8 years his position has changed vis-a-vis the GOP and conservatism but I think he still sees himself as a conservative.

As for Obama, I was the only one on this thread over a year ago that was hot for him. JF actually was considering McCain very seriously. So was Chris. Even Z seemed to prefer Hillary to Obama. Over time, all three along with MM have slowly migrated to the Obama camp. However, MM still thinks of himself as a Republican.

In fact, I have voted for Republicans in the past.....even Bush I. However, I have to admit most of the Republicans were of the Ripon variety. Its only this year I registered as a Dem so I could vote in the state caucus. Up til now, I have been registered as an independent.

So you can go ahead and yawn, but from where I am sitting, there appears to be a cold wind blowing through the GOP.
