Today a volunteer army is more effective. The calibre of draftees for WWII didn't include large numbers of drug addicts and rebellious malcontents. Sadly, it did for Vietnam and would today as well. Those citizens who willingly volunteer to fight for their country have already fulfilled many of the requirements to become an effective soldier. They accept discipline with equilibrium and would never shoot an officer in the back in the midst of battle(that has happened with draftees); they know why they're fighting the enemy and don't need to be convinced of the value of the cause(not always true with draftees). Accepting direction & discipline are huge factors...it could mean not only their own lives but the lives of their entire unit. There are many other reasons why a volunteer army results in a more effective fighting force. A smaller force achieves better results with high caliber troops, more so than a larger force filled with undisciplined and unhappy draftees. >You seem to not want to discuss why there is no draft.<

You seem to not want to discuss why there is no draft. I'll tell you why there's no draft, because it's a bad idea. One of the reasons our military works as well as it does is because with very few exceptions they all chose to be there. Want to see our fighting forces ruined? Institute a draft. Go ask some military types if they think a draft is a good idea, see what they say......
