Saying the USA was late to the fray and an also-ran in defeating Germany, with USSR leading the way isn't insulting. We were discussing Reagan "winning" the cold war. Which he didn't. You think it's insulting because you have a particular view of the USA as saviour of the planet, which the other 95% of humanity is not totally convinced of and many are very concerned about the USA's attitude to non-humans [the rest of us]. It's normal when kneeling before olde time kings and other totalitarian despots to show total compliance, respect, obedience and use nothing but ululation, praise, admiration and fawning genuflection. Saddam certainly required such obeisance. Maybe you require that of aliens. Sorry to disappoint you. I guess I haven't been banned because Lindy doesn't object to reasoned disagreement to conventional wisdom, especially if leavened with some humour: <i have been surprised you weren't banned some time ago from the board for causing general confusion to the readership.> For example, I thought it mildly amusing that my father risked my life in WWII, but the only comment in reply called me a confused crank, or neuron-deficient nut-case or something. I'm having trouble keeping the insults in order. I am getting a good collection. I can't help it if some people are confused by what I write. Plenty of people are not. They are just ideas, suggestions, facts, fantasies, jokes, plain wrong etc... It's not the Bible or Koran I'm writing, requiring dogmatic compliance, or a crusade against the false prophet. But I do, to make it clear, think that General Petraeus has been doing a great job [not that I have good detail]. He, like Gorby, when I first saw and heard him, had that illustrious X factor. It was unbelievably stupid of the Democrats [whoever they were] to come up with "General Betrayeus" - even if they think him not much good or something. That will have lost them a lot of votes.
