Obama has the advantage of knowing about the carter failure. He seems to running his campaign knowing all about the gore and kerry failure and i am certain that there will be no clintonian zipper problems.
Why do you think he will fail the carter test? I think he knows damn well about what happened with reagan in 1980. I think he thinks of himself as being transformative like reagan.

"Lots of things to like about Obama, but it's almost a given that he will be the second coming of Carter."

Possibly.

After all, he will be handed an economy that is gut shot. And it probably will take a Volcker to put it back on its feet.
