Our parents generation saved civilization. The historian who labeled them the greatest generation wasn't exaggerating a bit. I remember being amazed when young punks would diss the older generation decades ago. Just think - they inherited a world in depression with fascism and communism growing by bloodshed overseas. They defeated the Empire of Japan and Nazi Germany, encouraged the transition of the third world from colonialism to freedom, built the most prosperous economy in world history, did away with racial segregation, won the cold war against communism. By the time the first babyboomer President took over, the USSR was kaput. Amazing.
