I didn't vote for Carter. I didn't vote at all both times Carter ran. Carter's main failures were of leadership. With the Iran hostage crisis and with the energy crisis, he didn't get Americans following him. In retrospect, the policies were correct, but he failed to convince us of that.

With Bush, you've got a president that managed to convince 51% of us to follow absolutely terrible policies that have harmed America.

I don't see Obama having Carter's problem.

CJ, > If we had kept them up, we would be in much better shape now. ... But, your team has been so busy running up the credit card and passing up opportunities to behave prudently, that we are having to rely on winning the lottery to get out of this hole.

Talk about making s--t up ...

Two and a half decades of economic growth, fueled by cheap energy, and you're still arguing that we could have achieved the same level of prosperity via "conservation."

Like Steve said, we can deal with the current energy "crisis." Which IMO isn't really a crisis at all, except when it comes to getting Democrats elected.

As for Carter, he may have done some things right, but a lot of his prognostications turned out to be flat wrong. It's useless to bring them back now and say "coulda shoulda woulda," not to mention really chickens--t of you to blame Republicans for not reinstating them.

>Carter was a terrible president in many ways.

I'm still trying to figure this out. How so? I mean, it seems he sucked at standing up for himself and his causes, and he didn't win a second term, but how else was he bad?
