With a fairly small investment in forces and money, we could have put Afghanistan back on the map. They've had decades of war, civil and otherwise, and chaos. Which is why the Taliban keeps popping up. Brutal they are, but under them people had at least some semblance of peace. But, we have taken our eye off the ball. The Taliban is bidding for control and al Qaeda has established themselves in Pakistan. Round and round it goes...
