the problem is that the elderly were supposed to retire at 65 and die by 70. The greatest generation decided to survive depression, war and now old age. Who knew?

Social Security is already "welfare for the elderly." You pretty much hinted that if more people knew this, Social Security's days are numbered.

No it's not and no I didn't. More like insurance or an annuity.

I "hinted" that if we turned it into "welfare for the elderly" then that might be the end of it.
