Starts off with a scare question, and ends up admitting that almost all follow federal standards. Sounds like the "Environmental Defense Fund" was looking for a story they couldn't find.

careone not on the chart to check recommendations.. i wrote to careone and here is response. product was careone available from giant food, private label. 200 softgels omega-3 fish oil.

I also asked the same question on giant food web site. no response yet.

Please review my detailed reply regarding the supplier of our Fish Oil
products:

As a responsible manufacturer of nutritional supplement products, all of
the items produced by this facility must comply with current governmental
regulations before they are released for sale. To meet this requirement,
our facilities are operated under the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's)
as described in the Federal Register. We also follow the guidelines
established by the United States Pharmacopoeia (USP). The USP is the
official compendia which establishes the basic measures of strength,
quality, and purity for products produced under the regulations of the
Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act and includes limits for heavy metals. No
product is released unless it is acceptable within the limits of our
established specifications based on these guidelines.

Emphasis is now being placed on the suppliers to also provide certificates
of analysis and compliance stating that the raw materials have been tested
for heavy metal content, including mercury and arsenic. The current USP
requirements limit the presence of total heavy metals to no more than 20
parts per million. This is such a minute amount that although inherently
present, it is considered not to present any public health risk.

The Method used for PCB screening is EN 12393, European Union method. This
includes a fractionalized GPC method, then screened by GC Electron Capture
Detection, GC Nitrogen - Phosphorus Detection. Confirmation is by GC Mass
Spectrophotometry. The maximum value allowed is 0.05ppm. The test is
performed on the Raw Material.

Thank you.
