You can compare the price. That's the cost now. To get the economies of scale will cost many billions in additional investment. That investment hasn't happened yet. Currently the costs are such that the electric car can't compete well.

Sure after years of waiting and many billions of investment, the incremental cost of the electric car will probably be closer, but it will still almost certainly still be higher, and those billions are also a real cost to consider.

Which doesn't mean I have anything against electric cars, in fact in the very long run I expect them to predominate. But they aren't sensible at this point, and it doesn't make sense for the government to try to push them as a winner with HEAVY subsidies (like the nine grand per car in your example)
