Well, I suppose the astronomical price of oil would make it possible to do responsible oil drilling. Problem is, the oil industry can't be trusted to do the right thing. But if someone came up with a plan that was a good balance between the oil needs and protecting the environment, I'd probably be for that.

It still won't put a dent in the current situation. Oil is a global market; even if we get all ours from Canada, that in itself won't affect the price. Oil 'independence' is a mirage. Even if, by some miracle, we discovered US oil that would sate all our needs, you think the oil companies are gonna sell it below global market levels?

" There exist only estimates of "reserves" in unexplored areas - no one knows for sure what's there."

Don't you think you should know how much money you have in the bank before you drain your checking account????

And there are 67 million acres that leases were sold for that haven't been drilled....Why? Somebody paid big bucks for those leases for a reason...

There has been 40 years of drilling that hasn't increased production....and at $140/barrel everyone with a shovel is digging in his backyard..
