"Peak oil" has not a damned thing to do with the fact that we are importing all this oil. And it has not one thing to do with our need to drill for our own.

At $12 a barrel it wouldn't be a problem. It's not the volume, it's the cost, which is directly related to peak oil.

Had we been drilling in ANWR and the OCS in 1999 we would not be facing this oil crisis today. This is inarguable.

"This is inarguable" only if you are a Republican hack looking for political advantage. To those of us with a commitment to truth and good policy it is blatantly false.

Well yes and no. The US peak was in 1971 with a peak very near that in the late 70's or so. But was that because we could no longer drill for oil, because less cheap oil was found, or it was cheaper to import from overseas? Most of the blocking of drilling started in the late 70's. There is more oil under our soil than we have pumped out, but most of it is in oil shale and removing the shale may bury the Rockies. But for sure if we had not had the blocking the oil would be cheaper today, but the flip side would be that the mid east would have more oil than they do today.

Peak oil has only become a reality in the last 8 years... before that it was theroy vehemently denied by the Republicans (and still some are in denial).

"Peak oil" has not a damned thing to do with the fact that we are importing all this oil. And it has not one thing to do with our need to drill for our own.

It has everything to do with why we are importing all this oil. In fact, the problem is that peak oil hit the US long before it hit the rest of the world. We squandered our oil like it was so much candy. We went from a net exporter to a huge importer in 30 years. Every president since WW II is culpable for this mess. Running out of oil was a no brainer as far back as the 1950s.

And need I remind you how many presidents were Republican since WW II. You guys led us right down the primrose path.
