liarboy neolib, by what stupid logic would you conclude I think HITRAN's original purpose had anything to do with any environmental purpose. The only thing the military was interested in is finding the best wavelengths for the maximum signal to noise detection of a manmade heat source at the longest distances. And only as a second thought did they care about what molecules did what in effecting the signal to noise. And in fact h20 was always order and orders of magnitude more of an signal attenuator than any other gas or component in the atmosphere.

All one has to do is take a 60 buck IR meter out on a foggy day and that is quite obvious, but liaboy neolib has never...

CO2 was a non impact bit player down at levels that could not be measured.

I have actually used HITRAN, just to see what it does and how it is in fact mot really ready for prime time science. But one can get funding from uncle sam for a job playing with HITRAN for many imaginative silly projects.
