Well, let's see. One of Merkel's top advisers gets approached by an offical from the US at a G8 meeting and gets raked over the coals for allowing Obama to speak at the Gate. The very next day, Merkel starts voicing her objections.


Well, we don't even know that it happened.

Either way -- it was obviously inappropriate for Obama to have suggested such a thing. As Krauthammer eloquently put it, you have to EARN the right to speak at that particular location.

I think the ultimate resolution, of moving it down the street, was totally acceptable.
