Did you know that a large portion of the cost of vehicles today is due to government mandated safety features? Do you think those features are valuable? Or do you wish that government had not intervened and forced the issue?

Many of them where only sped up by the government. The markets where moving to demand them anyway. Get rid of the regulations now and much of the safety equipment would remain. In fact we have many vehicles going well beyond what regulations demand.

You call it a cost, but the business engaged in this venture call it an investment in the future.

Business invest in the future anyway. Pushing a rapid change doesn't increase the long term returns on investment, just the cost. It may even decrease the returns on investment if the change that get pushed is sub-optimal.
