"Is it to be used for better energy storage....like with solar and wind?"

That too. The initial push will be automotive. ZENN hopes to ship a car in Fall 2009 with a top speed of 80mph and a range of 250 miles. ZENN's current product has a top speed of 25mph and a range of 50 miles.

The claim is that they can manufacture a 52kW/hr device for about $3k in low volume, dropping to $2k in high volume. Which is cheap enough for peaking and buffering for solar and wind.

If they can pull it off with those specs and that price, they will have a tiger by the tail.
