government, with all it stands for, is what gives you your opportunity..

During the course of my 67 years I've seen incredible improvements in the material comforts available to the average shmuck. My kids enjoy amenities unimaginable in my youth, let alone to my parents, or theirs, ad infinitum.

Those improvements are thanks to invested capital seeking my, and others, business; winning when they satisfy, losing when they don't. The government has a proper, though very limited role, in facilitating that discovery process. Government coercion can shift allocation of scarce resources, but several centuries of experience indicate the result will seldom, if ever, be superior.

..petulant child. Makes me sick.

I, too, am sickened. I am surrounded by good, decent, intelligent, often successful folk who are utterly clueless. They have no idea why they aren't shivering under a thatch roof, wallowing in straw fouled by their own shit, that of their family, sundry pigs, chickens, sheep, dogs, goats, and etc.; often without clothing, and accustomed to brief spans and lots of dead children.

I doubt humanity will revert to a Malthusian situation. But the idolaters of government are making every effort.

Calling the claim that the government doesn't get just about everything right "hating the country", is offensive nonsense.

The biggest thing our government has gotten right is not to interfere too much in the economy, and so not slow down the engine that creates the wealth the the government and the private sector have to live off of.

And that is something that I should be grateful for, many other government don't get that right. But the trends for our government in this area might be somewhat negative.

An Oyster nailed the reply to your post.
