"It just gives millions more acres to the same companies that are sitting on nearly 68 million acres of public lands and coastal areas." Given that the acres in question are in international waters how are we giving anything to the companies? The U.S. does not own the seabed 50 miles offshore.

The offshore drilling merely puts off the real problem while maybe providing a quick and brief psychological kneejerk drop in price. When the oil washes ashore in FL killing the tourism business and the culprit wipes out the FL budget fighting it in court for 20 years, Jim will change his tune.

Sitting on it doesn't mean squat if there isn't enough oil to warrant drilling it. Like I've said before, a comprehensive plan is what is needed. We also need to get off as much foreign oil asap even if the price remains the same...but I think it will drop...a lot. I bet Obama comes up with a comprehensive plan. Including OCS drilling. He's sees the light but can't get past elitist Pelosi and the huggers. Context is one thing but I heard her say it. She blocked a vote on it and took off on vacation. When they get back in 5 weeks they might have a plan...then they recess for the year on Oct. 1. If they stone wall it throuh the election some of them may not be coming back at all.
