When you live in a different place or when you get to know people in a different city and see their city through their eyes, you begin to realize there are a whole bunch of ways to do some very basic tasks....like flushing a toilet. Its why traveling can be broadening and why living in one place for a long time can prevent you from seeing the forest for the trees. In that vein, you can't imagine withdrawing from Iraq because you see Iraq only as a win/lose proposition. You don't even understand the goals that were fabricated by some on the right to replace the original reasons for going to war when they were deemed false; the whole concept of nation building of giving Iraqis a fresh start afer deposing Saddam seems to have gone right over your head. Even though the right fabricated those reasons to cover their asses, they are real nonetheless. And now its up to Iraq to live up to their manifest destiny. al Sadr may well rise up again and overthrow the gov't. A new Saddam may come along. That's for the Iraqis to work out. They have been given the tools to have a democracy....now let's see what they with them. However, its their will, not America's. Our job is done....and its time for American soldiers to come home. We have a lot of work to do in this country and we can use the money once spent in Iraq to accomplish needed work here. I know, I know.......you want to secure Iraq's oil for the US and to have numerous American bases in Iraq. First of all, that's not what the Iraqis want, and frankly, its not in our best interest. So ratchet down your expectations. The war is over. American soldiers will be coming home soon. The American people want it that way. He has bought into the meme that Obama is just flowery rhetoric. Please tell me where the logic is in setting an arbitrary time table for withdrawal of troops from Iraq without consideration of conditions on the ground? You aren't a potted plant, surely you can see how imprudent such a commitment would be, no? What happens when you start drawing down troops and al Sadr regains strength -- which could happen? Are we to stand by and allow it? Do you not see the downside in that? Don't you believe ANY American president would be required to act in such a circumstance? Are you going to oppose a THIRD war in in Iraq? Your posts here suggest you are a fairly logical person. What is your logical argument in support of the Obama plan to blindly withdraw troops from Iraq?
