That chart also shows the OCS leasing ban and the decline in production began simultaneously. Oh, we'd be in decline anyway probably, though the chart to the right of 1970 would be higher, with more bumps like the Prudhoe one.

As for Mexico, the decline there is due to lack of exploration by the socialized PEMEX, not a natural peak.

WR, regulations and legislation cause "peak oil" conditions to become self-fulfilling prophecies. Of course U.S. production peaked in the 70's; we now import more oil than before, and that's thanks to bans on drilling.

Don't tell me the oil industry should drill in lands they already have, unless you can tell them exactly where to drill and not be laughed out of the executive offices of the oil barrons.
