"WR, regulations and legislation cause "peak oil" conditions to become self-fulfilling prophecies"

How so? The peak was in 1972, can we agree on that? So, what happened in the 1960s that stopped drilling? Ok, the ban off Santa Barbara, although that was a little late to make a peak in 1972. And that only fits if Santa Barbara has reserves that make Saudi Arabia look oil poor. Most of the OCS bans occurred a good decade after the peak. When oil was getting really cheap. So that couldn't have caused the peak.

And that still doesn't change the fact that oil production is declining almost everywhere, including the ME. Has everyone stopped drilling?

Can you tell us exactly where to drill off the coasts....is there a known supply there???? Who knows that? Is that all we have??/

" Of course U.S. production peaked in the 70's; we now import more oil than before, and that's thanks to bans on drilling."

So you're saying there has been no drilling for the past 40 years????? I'm prepared to show you're wrong...

"Don't tell me the oil industry should drill in lands they already have,"

Why not???? They've spent billions to lease those lands and off shore sites... Do they not think there is oil or gas there? Why therefore would they lease?? Who knows whether there is oil off the coasts of CA and FLA.....this seems to be a question you can't seem to or won't answer...

"regulations and legislation cause "peak oil" conditions"

Uh, no; geology and physics cause peak oil conditions.

By the way, from your first post...
"Oil prices declined to a minimum in the 90's after the peaks of the Carter administration. And that was well after your imaginary "peak" of 1972."

You're using the wrong metrics. Peak oil is BPD, barrels per day, not DPB, dollars per barrel. Good try, tho. Just a little dylslexia.

PS...I forgot; I think this is where you are supposed to tell me that oil shale will save us.
