CJ, > The peak was in 1972, can we agree on that?

The key fallacy behind the "peak oil" argument is that there's nothing we can do to exceed the peak production of 1972, so why bother?

Doesn't mean we shouldn't open up new areas to drilling and alleviate the domestic supply concerns. But that won't stop the "peak oil" zealots from pounding the table and forcing us to stand by as gas reaches $5/gallon and beyond.

Nor will it stop them from pretending, as Obama does, that the solution is an "either-or" matter, as in "either drilling or conservation." Give me a break.
